Known as the River Styx Ghost Train, the legend has become associated with the railroad history around Peninsula and the surrounding region.

According to versions of the tale, people near the tracks have reported hearing the unmistakable sounds of an approaching train—distant whistles, rumbling wheels, and the metallic rhythm of something racing along the rails.

But then something strange happens.

No train appears.

Some accounts describe mysterious lights moving along the tracks. Others tell of a phantom locomotive emerging from the darkness before seemingly disappearing. Like many ghost-train legends, the details vary depending on who's telling the story.

The setting only adds to the mystery.
